The co-sponsors have all provided funding and include the City of Eugene, the American Institute of Architects Southwestern Oregon Chapter, the American Society of Landscape Architects Willamette Valley Section, Lane Transit District, and the ODTD/DLCD Transportation and Growth Management Program. Objective: The objective of this multidisciplinary educational program is to host a lecture series that will inform area professionals, students, and the broader public about the need to consider transportation and land use strategies in concert that can jointly create more livable cities with enhanced safety, reduced congestion, greater mobility choices, and more housing variety. This lecture series meets OTREC's goals of encouraging multidisciplinary educational programs and experiential learning across disciplines in the transportation field.
Scope: The intent is to have an annual series of lectures by a variety of nationally-known experts in the fields of transportation planning, urban design, and transit-oriented development. These lecture are free and open to the public. Attendance is required of University of Oregon students enrolled in urban design courses. Nearly 400 participants attended five lectures in 2006. In addition, the videotaped lectures are being broadcast on Metro TV (Cable 21 in Eugene) this winter to broaden the exposure of the series theme.
