Neighborhood Street Study

Researchers at Portland State University are working with six cities around the United States to understand how changes to the roads and sidewalks are affecting the people who use those streets. In particular, each city has installed one or more cycle tracks (bike lanes separated from other traffic lanes by a barrier such as a post, curb, or parking strip).

The study is looking to find out what elements of the facilities’ designs are working and what improvements can be made, and to understand how residents, bicyclists, motorist and pedestrians are affected by the facilities.  The Project is being carried out by Portland State University (PSU) and the Oregon Transportation Research and Education Consortium (OTREC), and is funded by OTREC and the Green Lane Project.
